Issue Resolution

Lobbying/issue resolution entails understanding and communicating a position to change/alter/settle a public sector issue in your favor.  Historically, it involved “hanging out” in the rotunda of government buildings cultivating relationships with public officials.  That is still done.  But, it has evolved.

Lobbying/issue resolution now involves developing grass roots coalitions, e-mail blasts to public officials, placing Op-Ed pieces in local newspapers, airing public service announcements, placing strategic postings on blogs and utilizing social media.  But, the new and old tactics are both naught without proper research.  Lobbyists without a full understanding of a client’s issue(s) are weak, ineffective and a waste of a client’s time and money.

PROXY 2.0’s biggest strength is probably understanding a client’s issues and industry.  PROXY 2.0 utilizes a network of sources, internet sites, RSS feeds and a base of knowledge that are applicable to the firm’s specialty areas and other sectors.  For example:

#1 – Municipal Homeland Security Funding

Worked in conjunction with a D.C.-based lobbying firm for TechAlt as the Illinois "point-person" to assist local communities in securing federal funding for local homeland security projects that would utilize the client's products and services.

#2 – Australia Trade Mission

While at the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, represented Olin Corporation in securing a multi-million (Australian) dollar settlement for the company’s Winchester Division through Australia’s National Fire Arms Program.  Resolution involved working with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, IllinoisU.S. Senators and Australian trade and commerce officials.

#3 – Digital Billboards

Representing TransLumen Technologies (TTL), researched legal, advertising industry and public safety issues regarding electronic digital billboards.  The findings were used to develop white papers and issue papers regarding a new TTL product offering.

#4 – AEA/City of Chicago

While representing the American Electronics Association – Midwest, PROXY 2.0 educated various City of Chicago Alderman on the need to update the City’s Cable Franchise Agreement and Telecommunications Act.  Neither of the policies had taken into account technological advances that would hinder and possibly prevent the development of new video technology/multi-media content providers and established companies such as Microsoft and AOL.
